On This Day the 1st Nobel Prizes Awarded

The First Nobel Prizes awarded
Have you ever wondered who came up with the Nobel Prizes? Turns out this great honor was named after a Swedish born inventor, Alfred Nobel. He was the creator of dynamite and other explosives. After his death he made sure that his fortune would be used for a higher good. Giving high praises and an award for those in; physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. So on December 10,1901 five golden medallions were handed out. Here are the first five recipients!
The Chemistry prize went to  Jacobus H. van ‘t Hoff as he explains the significance of osmotic pressure in plants and animals. We'll have to dig into that to get a better understanding later.
The Physics Prize went to  Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen who essentially invented the X-ray.
Medicine Prize went to  Emil von Behring who created the serum to cure diphtheria, which killed thousands of people during that time.
Literature Prize went to  Sully Prudhomme for the  book of Lucretius' De Rerum Natura.
and finally the Peace Prize was awarded to  Henry Dunant who founded the Red Cross.
