On This Day, the US Constitution Convention Began!

Illustration of the US Constitution on display with Shrimp 'n Lobster

That's right, on this day, May 25, 1787, fifty-five delegates from the twelve of the thirteen colonies traveled to Philadelphia to take part in the Constitutional Convention. Rhode Island wanting to remain independent refused to send anyone take part in the event. It took four months to write out the new laws! In the end on September 17, 1787 forty-one delegates were present to sign the famous document.

If you want to see the US Constitution with your own eyes you'll have to travel to Washington DC! It is located in the National Archives Museum. What familiar names will you see on this document? President George Washington, James Madison Jr., Alexander Hamilton, and Benjamin Franklin.
